Could your property qualify?
You own the property
This may include a home, rental property, second home or eligible small non-domestic building in England or Wales.
You are replacing an existing heating system
This can include fossil fuel heating such as gas, oil or LPG, or direct electric heating.
The installation meets scheme rules
An MCS-certified installer must assess the property, recommend an eligible technology and apply for the grant.
The property has not had duplicate funding
You generally cannot qualify if the property has already received government support for a heat pump or biomass boiler.
Important exclusions.
Most new-build properties and social housing do not qualify, although eligible self-build properties may. Read the full eligibility guide before proceeding.
The process
How the Boiler Upgrade Scheme works
The scheme is installer-led. You choose an MCS-certified installer, and they apply for the grant voucher on your behalf.

The installer submits the voucher application and Ofgem asks you to confirm consent.

How much can I get through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
Standard grants are £7,500 for eligible air-to-water and ground-source heat pumps, £2,500 for air-to-air heat pumps and £5,000 for eligible biomass boilers. Eligible off-gas-grid properties may receive £9,000 for an air-to-water or ground-source heat pump for qualifying applications made from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027.
Can I apply for the grant myself?
No. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is installer-led. An MCS-certified installer applies for the voucher on your behalf.
Does the grant cover the full installation cost?
Not necessarily. The grant is deducted from the eligible installation price, and you are responsible for the remaining balance and any work outside the grant.
Do new-build homes and social housing qualify?
Most new-build properties and social housing do not qualify. Eligible self-build properties may qualify, subject to the full scheme requirements.
